Last weekend we went to Wales with YCC for a Mountain Biking trip organised by Badger. To be honest it was more about testing our ability to survive a weekend in a bunkhouse with Caitlin and try and ‘do stuff’ as well. As well as Caitlin Fionn joined us (obviously with Orna & Ian) and we bagged the little room at the Conwy Valley Barn a nice little bunkhouse just outside Tal-y-bont. On the whole all went well, we all managed to get some sleep … we don’t seem to have been banned from further trips until Caitlin and Fionn reach beer drinking age and we both got to ride.
Saturday was the Marin trail. I took on babysitting duties and Sarah road the whole route. Once back I had chance to haul myself and my Quake to the top and come down again as quickly as possible. At about 3 miles (2 going up 1 mile coming down) it didn’t take long, but was well worth the effort.
A few beers and a curry later saw me sleeping on the sofa with Caitlin after destroying my bunk and her refusing to go to sleep (it was nothing to do with the beers or the curry though) saw most of the group head of to the Penmachno trail, some heading of to the Tryweryn for a spot of boating and Orna, Sarah, Kate Caitlin and Fionn and I heading to Llandegla to sample the latest changes to the trails there. In the end only I road on what was a very greasy trail at Llandegla, not sure whether it needs longer for the new trail to bed in, I had way to much air in my tyres or I was going way too fast for my current level of rustiness … probably a little bit of each!
Anyways, I enjoyed the jumps section a lot and did it several times, before deciding I was too tired to cope with hauling the quack around the rest of the route if I did it again! We made it home for teatime and took Caitlin’s cast of her leg after she wee’ed all over it! Top weekend, thanks to Badge for organising and everyone else for being there.
