Today whilst I was at the hospital I met a little girl with some kind of heart defect. She was quite happy and chatty and having asked why I was there she declared in a completely matter of fact way that 'she was always there because her heart was broken' and given the wires I think she meant in a physical way. I didn't really know what to say. It made my very infrequent visits to the hospital seem like nothing more than an inconvenience and I have to admit so feeling sad that this lovely, happy little girl was having to put up with being in hospital so much. I hope that whatever was wrong with her can and will be fixed.
Why bring this up … well my sister is running the Great North Run this year in aid of the British Heart Foundation. I won't be pestering everyone for sponsorship this year so why not sponsor my sister instead then hopefully there will be no reason for that little girl, or any other, to be cooped up in a hospital waiting room rather than being outside enjoying life.
