Novemberathon – 8th, a bit of a cop out

I knew today and tomorrow were going to be difficult as I had Ewan to look after all on my own whilst Sarah was at work doing some keeping in touch days. I ended up just going for a walk with him as he was not up or going down in the pushchair. 3.53 miles carrying the little man was all I managed, still exercise is exercise.

Todays Distance: 3.53 Miles

Total Distance: 55.40 Miles (14.97 Running, 36.90 Riding, 3.53 Walking)

Novemberthon – 7th, Cranking up the mileage

OK so I got lost, not lost really just confused as to where I was going, and ran half a mile further than I intended to but felt quite good when I got back to find I'd done 6.52 miles around the lovely suburbs of York, weaving on and out of the roadworks and being almost flattened by no fewer then 3 number 6 buses! I do prefer running at home away from all the traffic but when at work I have little choice.

So anyway today's slightly longer than intended run was 6.52 miles in 1 hour 2 minutes and 8 seconds which gives an average pace of 9:31 minute miles. If I can do that on Sunday at the Dalby Dash I'll be more than happy (although I feel the GREAT BIG HILL will slow me down somewhat!).

Todays Distance: 6.52 Miles

Total Distance: 51.87 Miles (14.97 Running, 36.90 Riding)

Novemberthon – 6th, A bit of kayaking and then a bit more on the bike

Today was a session paddling at sleningford in the playboat, mostly coaching so not a major workout. Got home and did a short ride on the road bike. Quite slow as it was dark and I was a little underlit … note to self put BIG lights on when going out in the dark around here. 6.24 miles in 20 minutes (ish, wasn't accurately timing) so 18.7 miles an hour which isn't bad but over such a short distance I can normally crank a little faster.

Todays Distance: 6.24 Miles

Total Distance: 45.35 Miles (8.45 Running, 36.90 Riding)

Novemberthon – 5th, Hitting the bike

Today is my first non-running day. Got the road bike out and did a little local route taking in every possible hill in the area (OK so by hill I mean railway bridge as there are not really any hills around here!). Aimed to be out for roughly 2 hours so am quite happy with 1 hour 58 minutes and 22 seconds and a total distance of 30.66 miles giving an average pace of 15.7 miles/hour which I'm fairly happy with over that distance. I need to get some gloves as after 2 hours I had some rubbing on my hands where the grips end and I should really get some shoes before I run out of old pairs of running shoes t ride in.

Probably out on the bike again tomorrow, but not as far, and then back to running on Monday.

Todays Distance: 30.66 Miles

Total Distance: 39.11 Miles (8.45 Running, 30.66 Riding)

Some more progress …

A while back I was quite excited to have got my weight down into the 'overweight' category from the 'obese' category with training for all these running events I am doing over the next year. If I did a big run I'd drop in weight sharply but then would creep back up. This meant that I'd be getting down to 14 stone 6 ish than creeping back to 14 stone 9 or 10 ish. Now I don't want to have to be continually training for a marathon in order to not be chubby so it was a little depressing that every time I had a couple of days off my weight crept back up.

The solution …  enter the road bike … I've been getting out on the bike quite a bit, not as much as I would like but enough. This seems to have had 2 huge effects:

  1. I can now peddle my mountain bike up hills
  2. I seem to be losing and keeping weight off

So … drum roll please … I now weight, and have done consistently for the last 4 days 14 stone 3 pounds which gives me a BMI of 29.38.

Novemberathon – 3rd, short but fast (well for me anyway)

Today I didn't have a lot of time to squeeze a run in at lunchtime so pulled a super short but fast 1.37 miles through Heslington village. Total time was 12 minutes 45 seconds but 3 minutes 45 seconds of that was spent buying a sandwich and topping up York Canoe Club's bank account so only 9 minutes spend running which gives an average pace of 6:33 minute miles. I hasten to add that there is no way I could keep that kind of pace up for very long!

I have a day off tomorrow as we were going to be heading up to the Tyne Tour, but are now staying home, so am hoping to get a longer (slower) run in during the day. Then roll on the weekend and Bonfire Night, yay.

Todays Distance: 1.37 Miles

Total Distance: 5.58 Miles

Novemberathon – 2nd, a little further and a little faster

Today a little further and a little faster than yesterday. Running from home today taking in the closes of Church Fenton, 2 passes over the biggest hill in the area (it is only a railway bridge but it is still the biggest hill in the area!). Total distance was 2.76 miles in 26 minutes 30 seconds giving an average pace of 9:36 minute miles.

Todays Distance: 2.76 Miles

Total Distance: 4.21 Miles
