Janathon – 31st, The last day

So I'm quite pleased with myself today. Yesterday I had tried to run faster than my usual plodding pace and although I had managed a little faster it was nothing to write home about. I'd been aiming for 9:30 average pace over 4 miles and got 9:43 average pace over just short of 4 miles. Today I went out with the aim of doing 9:30 average pace over 4 miles again but a strange thing happened. I felt quite good and was going quite fast. In fact I was just under 9 minute miles for the first few miles. As I was feeling good I kept going and ended up doing 5.75 miles and the average pace at the end of this … wait for it … 9:10 which I am quite pleased with. I was out for a total of 52:45 but then stopped to pick up supplies and sort out some bank stuff in Heslington and walked the 0.5 miles back to the office. This seemed to make stretching a whole lot easier, maybe this is that warming down thing people talk about!

So that's Janathon over and done with as Sarah is going out tonight so I won't get any more done. The final totals are not as big as in November but I had other things on my mind for the best part of January and running was by far the biggest part of the totals this time rather than riding. I had 7 days off during January which is 7 more than I did in November. It should be noted though that this morning I weighed myself and was 13 stone 12 pounds so it has had some effect! The final totals are:

Running: 86.29 Miles (812 Minutes) – 163% of November (52.77 Miles)

Riding: 21.65 Miles (111 Minutes) - 15% of November (152.47 Miles)

Swimming: 2.86 Miles (85 Minutes) – ∞% of November (0 Miles)

Other: 5.13 Miles (98 Minutes) - 43% of November (12.01  Miles)

Total: 115.93 Miles (1106 Minutes) - 53% of November (217.25 Miles)

Some more progress …

A while back I was quite excited to have got my weight down into the 'overweight' category from the 'obese' category with training for all these running events I am doing over the next year. If I did a big run I'd drop in weight sharply but then would creep back up. This meant that I'd be getting down to 14 stone 6 ish than creeping back to 14 stone 9 or 10 ish. Now I don't want to have to be continually training for a marathon in order to not be chubby so it was a little depressing that every time I had a couple of days off my weight crept back up.

The solution …  enter the road bike … I've been getting out on the bike quite a bit, not as much as I would like but enough. This seems to have had 2 huge effects:

  1. I can now peddle my mountain bike up hills
  2. I seem to be losing and keeping weight off

So … drum roll please … I now weight, and have done consistently for the last 4 days 14 stone 3 pounds which gives me a BMI of 29.38.

Janathon, Juneathon …. Novemberathon?

I need to get my training back up to speed having now committed to the Edinburgh Marathon next year. Whilst on a first aid course at the weekend with Extreme Care Carrick 'Pyro' Armer (Pyro's Yard) mentioned the Janathon and Juneathon which I thought sounded like quite a good idea. Now January is a bit late to be training for the Brass Monkey so I thought I get on with a 'Novemberathon'!

The idea being that I should do some kind of exercise every day of November, preferably mapped and blog about it. I'll mostly be running but in order to not get injured I'll be throwing in some other exercise such as road biking and kayaking and many of the runs, like todays, will be relatively short but by the end of the month it should be easier to get out for longer runs … I hope. We'll see if I am any more successful at this project than any of my previous photography ones!

Brass Monkey 2012

Just a quick update to say I got my space in the Brass Monkey so back to training hard after he London Marathon disappointment. Another bonus of training for these events is I went Mountain Biking this week and could pedal up hills I would have pushed up before and I am almost under 14 stone (14 2.25 this morning) for the first time in years.

Marathon Training – Week 3

This week I have run only run 3 times but a distance of 12.87 miles.

This weeks runs

1. Monday – 4.38 miles

2. Thursday – 6.25 miles

3. Saturday – 2.24 miles

Weight

After my midweek low I currently weigh 14 stone 9 pounds which given my height of 5'9'' gives me a BMI of 30.27 which means I am still obese (but only just).

Progress…

This morning I weighed myself and weighed 14 stone 6.5 pounds which given my height of 5'9'' gives me a BMI of 29.90 which means for the first time in a good few years I am only overweight and not obese! Yay! It's probably just dehydration from 6.24 mile run yesterday but I'll take that!

Marathon Training – Week 2

This week I have run 11.54 miles. I seem to have a happy limit of about 3 miles at the moment, after that it hurts! I did get some new running shorts this week (Skins A400 three quarter length) and they seem to work quite well. I'm hoping to get myself a road bike, well a flat barred one anyway, so that I can start cross training. Anyway I ran a total of 11.54 miles this week which is more than last week, but I am feeling it this week. Hopefully I haven't done too much too soon, as seems to be my way, I suppose I'll find out later today when I head out for a 3 miler.

This weeks runs

1. Monday – 2.67 miles

2. Tuesday – 3.05 miles

3. Thursday – 3.14 miles

4. Thursday – 0.93 miles (Testing new shorts!)

5. Sunday – 1.75 miles (It was raining and I couldn't find my GPS so this was a fast one!)
