Janathon – 14th, Swimming with the kids

I had planned on going kayaking today but with Ewie and Sarah being ill I was a last minute drop out. Went for a swim with Caitlin instead. I'm not sure it's quite the same as swimming 64 lengths but at least 10 lengths of the kids pool with a slightly over excited 2 year old on your back must count as exercise?!

Janathon – So Far

So I've not been putting running totals on my Janathon posts this time. Mainly because I got it wrong half the time in November and had to go through and correct it! Having had a few days off at the beginning of the month and my head not really being in it still the totals aren't really all that impressive. I don't think I'll be getting up to the kind of distance I did in November (217.70 Miles) but who knows.

Here is where I'm at so far:

Distance Run: 28.54 Miles

Distance Ridden: 21.65 Miles

Distance Walked: 1.74 Miles

Distance Swum: 1.40 Miles (90 Lengths)

Total Distance: 53.33 Miles

It's all part of my training for the Edinburgh Marathon in May. You can read more about it at http://www.allars.co.uk/jons-year-of-running/ and if you want to help me get my running mojo going maybe you could splash a little cash supporting one of my 3 chosen charities:

Thanks

J

Janathon – 12th, Running Again

Back to a longer run today. 5.27 miles .. still slow with a time of 57:00 giving a pace of 10:49 but at least today was a fairly consistent pace:

Split Time Distance Pace (avg)

1 00:10:23 1.0 mi 10:18

2 00:10:40 1.0 mi 10:38

3 00:11:23 1.0 mi 11:20

4 00:11:03 1.0 mi 10:58

5 00:10:58 1.0 mi 10:52

6 00:02:31 0.3 mi  09:56

still a long way of a half marathon let alone a full one but every little helps.

Janathon – 11th, At least I got out

My heads not in it at the moment. I got out today and even did a little bit of off road which is way out of my comfort zone. Only 2.82 miles and it took a whopping 30:07 giving an average pace of 10:42. I need to get my running mojo back as I've got the Brass Monkey in less than 2 weeks and a mere 5 months until the Edinburgh Marathon.

Kate

On the 3rd of January we lost a truly fantastic friend. Sad as her death is she would have wanted life to go on and to this end she has already helped up to 20 people have a new lease of life through organ donation.

If you do 2 things today please listen to, Radio York breakfast show 9/1/12, from 36:20 mins at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p002fg04 then please go to https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ukt/how_to_become_a_donor/registration/thank_you.jsp?type=1

Kate, you will be missed but you will always be in our hearts and our minds.

Janathon – 10th, Swimming and Running

I'm not sure how triathletes do it. I swam this morning (40 lengths, 1000m) and then ran 2.83 miles at lunchtime. The run was slow and painful 2.83 miles in 29:52 giving an average pace of 10:33. Again this would be alright if I was sustaining that pace over a marathon distance but for 3 miles it's not so hot. I ran out through the new campus here at York University and I have to say it is a pretty impressive bit of construction. I particularly like the meeting 'pods' in, yes in, the lake.

Janathon – 8th, Up the pub

I'm sure Caitlin's nursery workers think we are alcoholics as Caitlin has a fascination with going 'up the pub'. Today we went to the Crooked Billet for Badgers birthday. A few people, including Sarah, went out for a ride on the way to the pub but I had the children so loaded them both into the trailer and cycled 'up the pub' with them. Ewan cried for the first mile then fell asleep and Caitlin spent the first mile telling me that Ewan was crying, the second mile asking if we were going 'up the pub' and then she too fell asleep!

Anyway there and back was 8.10 miles in total so a vast improvement on previous days.
